Onzelo Markum III has broad political and public policy experience in
Texas and has used that experience to build a successful political and
public affairs consulting firm, The Markum Group.
A well known conservative Republican with polished
political skills and campaign-tested experience, Onzelo created the
firm to elect Republicans to office by providing hard-hitting
political and media consulting.
Onzelo is the conservative political commentator on
the Anything League City Internet radio show (live on Wednesdays at
7p, CST at www.leaguecity.biz) and was the chief strategist for the
successful 2005 mayoral campaign for fellow Aggie, League City Mayor
Jerry Shults. The Markum Group currently has clients in the 2006
Galveston County Republican primary election and the 2006 League City
municipal election.
Onzelo has extensive writing and public speaking
experience, having addressed Republican audiences across Texas on key
conservative and political issues such as the defense of marriage, the
professionalisation of local campaigns, and conservative media
relations 101.
Onzelo is a dynamic, results-oriented leader with
more than fifteen years of experience in the public and private
sectors leading high-performance teams, including over fourteen years
of service as a Texas police officer where he earned a Medal of Valor.
From 1991 – 1994, Onzelo was involved in local
politics as the elected President of the 100-member League City Police
Officers Association. He was appointed to the Texas Commission on Law
Enforcement by then Governor George W. Bush in 1995 where he
represented the interests of over 65,000 peace officers in Texas to
the Governor and the Texas legislature.
Onzelo ran for the Republican nomination to the
U.S. Congress in 1998 and has been involved in numerous Republican
campaigns at the state, county, and local level since the mid-90’s; he
has been a force up and down the ballot as one of the premier
Republican political operatives in Texas for more than a decade.
Onzelo holds a Bachelor of Science degree in
Political Science from the University of Houston at Clear Lake and a
Master’s degree in Business Administration from Texas A & M
University.
Onzelo is married to the former Deirdre Williams,
Ph.D. and they have two children. The Markum’s are active members of
Windsor Village United Methodist Church.
